Chapter 4: Dont't Play Around

Daiki just stared at him.

He stared at Daiki back.

Daiki pierced his eyes at him.

He pierced his eyes at Daiki back.

Daiki’s upper lip just twitched in annoyance as the person who was sitting in front of him kept imitating whatever he was doing. Although he didn’t twitched his upper lip just like what Daiki did, the other guy frowned at him in reply. Daiki stood up as he banged his chopsticks to the dining table.

“Stop being such a pain in the ass!!” groaned Daiki.

Takaki just blinked at him, didn’t really sure what to say. He just looked up and stared at Daiki who was standing right in front of him. The rest of HSJ members exchanged looks with each other. The totally had no idea what the hell was going on with Daiki.

“What did I do?” asked Takaki.

“Stop imitating whatever I do!”

“I didn’t imitate you,” defended Takaki.

“Then stop starring!!! Arrrgghh! I’m done eating!” Daiki grabbed his rice bowl and glass as he quickly made his way to the kitchen.

Things had been pretty much confusing for Daiki. Since Takaki told him what actually happened when he was drunk, Daiki had been in such a bad mood. Anything could just trigger his anger. The thing that confused him so much was the fact that he still couldn’t understand why on earth Takaki just had to kiss him.

Once he finished washing his dishes, Daiki quickly went to the backyard veranda and sat on the wooden floor. He buried his head on his hands that were wrapped against his upped knees. I hate all this! This is not how I want it to be! Damn it, I like him! But why my first kiss with him must be when I was drunk?! I hate myself! I hate Takaki!

“Yo..” said someone softly as he sat next to Daiki.

Daiki looked up, finding Keito next to him. The English boy set himself nicely on the floor and opened a thick book, which Daiki assumed some kind of English novel or something. Keito didn’t really say a word to him, but reading his book. For him, Keito was mysterious. He couldn’t understand the younger boy at all sometimes.

“So, what’s with you being all grumpy for the past few days, Arioka-kun? The others start to wondering,” said Keito suddenly, without even looked up from his book.

Daiki stared at him. Keito was bigger than him, despite the fact that Daiki was older. Even so, Daiki somehow always thought that Keito would be the type of guy that would say some wise words and such. It seemed that his thought wasn’t all wrong after all, considering that the way Keito talk to him now.

“Nothing. My mood just swings here and there lately,” replied Daiki.

“Sou~,” said Keito.

“What are you doing here?” asked Daiki.

“Reading,”

“I can see that. I mean why you have to read here?” asked Daiki again.

“Because it seemed like you need some company, and I assumed even though you need one, you won’t say a thing about what’s bothering you. So I guess as a quiet person as I am, I’m the right person for that,” Keito finally looked up and smiled at Daiki.

It was then that Daiki understood Keito a little better. As expected, he though, Keito was still more mature than anyone in the band. Daiki had to admit that what Keito did just now would be pretty much what Yabu would do to cheer him up. Daiki realized that he really needed to talk about what happened to someone, but maybe not Keito. However, he was really happy that the younger boy at least cared.

“Thank you,” said Daiki, burying his face on his arms again.

“For these four awesome middle school students!!” said Yuto as he toasted his juice can to the air.

“Yay! For the four of us!!” exclaimed Chinen as he joined Yuto.

“Let’s do our best, guys! I bet it will be so much fun doing this drama,” Yamada grinned and toasted his juice as well.

“Kanpai!!!” Hikaru stood up and toasted his own juice even higher than the rest of the members who were sitting in the living room.

“Kanpai!!” cheered the rest of them.

“I’m not in middle school. It’s just my role, for goodness sake,” Daiki just pouted, although he actually toasted his juice and joined the rest of them.

Daiki was happy of course, to be able to play in another drama during the autumn season. Acting had been something that he loved to do anyway, despite the fact that he was playing as a middle school student was actually a humiliation for him. But well, he thought, that was the challenge of an actor.

“Congrats ne, Dai-chan,” said Takaki as he lifted up his juice slightly in front of Daiki who was just sitting a few steps away.

“Thanks,” he replied, without actually bother to look at the older boy.

“Ganbatte, okay,” said Takaki again.

“Hai~,” Daiki replied, still didn’t bother to look at Takaki.

Somehow, from the corner of his eyes, Daiki noticed Takaki’s disappointed look. He sighed, thinking that he was probably being unreasonable. Takaki didn’t actually do anything wrong. So why the heck did he has to act all grumpy like that? He liked Takaki, Takaki liked him (well, maybe), there should be enough reason for them to kiss each other right? Right?

“Hm.. Takaki..” said Daiki, this time, looking at the older boy.

“Ehm?”

“There’s something I want to ask you. Have a minute?” asked Daiki.

“Yeah, sure”

“Not here,”

“Then?”

“Ehm.. Outside maybe,” replied Daiki.

Takaki nodded as he stood up. Daiki did just like the other boy did and made his way outside the apartment. He made sure no one was following them and closed the front door slowly. Takaki took a sip from his juice glass that he brought along with him as he raised his eyebrows, asking Daiki what he wanted to say.

“Why did you kiss me?” asked Daiki.

“Ehmm..” Takaki just went silent, wasn't really sure how to replied.

“Ne, Takaki?” he asked again.

“Ehm, well, you see.. that night.. Yamada, Yuto, and Chinen were playing Uno, right? Then you fell asleep. Some times after you fell asleep, they kind of talked about you having a crush on me,” explained Takaki.

“They what?!?!” Daiki’s eyes widened open in shock.

“You heard me. Then, ehm, I asked you whether you actually do have a crush on me… and…”

“And?”

“You said yes. And I kissed you..”

“Ha?! But I was drunk! That’s not possible!”

“That’s the thing. You didn’t remember anything the next day,”

Daiki was speechless. He confessed without he himself knew it?! All was just because the stupid sake he drank the other night?! In the same time, Daiki felt as if he wanted to kill Yamada, Yuto, and Chinen for discussing his private matter like it was nobody’s business (well, it wasn’t like they knew Takaki and Daiki were in the room).

“And the reason you kissed me?” asked Daiki after catching up with reality.

“You looked cute,”

“That’s it?! Just because I looked cute?!”

“Ehm.. if you are talking about that night, then yes.”

The next thing Takaki knew he was being punched hard on the face. Bounced backwards a couple of steps, Takaki looked up as he touched his chin. He looked really confused, especially because Daiki was then piercing his eyes in anger to him.

“Don’t freaking kidding me! Cute?! Just because I looked cute?!?! What the hell!!” Daiki opened harshly the front door and went inside, leaving confused Takaki outside.

---------

Daiki hated Yuto, Yamada, and Chinen. At that moment he swore that he hated them. No, of course not as in really hate them. It was more towards the fact that Daiki didn’t really understand why his co-stars locked him in Takaki’s and Yamada’s room, with Takaki actually inside at the moment.

Maybe he actually knew why. After he punched Takaki hard on the face the night before, he bumped into Chinen who was looking for him. He pretty much sure that Chinen heard their conversation, or pretty much at least saw him punched Takaki, or even only saw Takaki being all bruised up.

“Dai-chan..”

“Go away!!”

“But you’ve been inside for almost two hours,” said Takaki.

“Mind your own freaking business. Just leave me alone!”

“I can’t. They locked us,”

“But at least you could just go somewhere else in the room instead of sitting in front of the closet like this!! You are blocking my vision!” groaned Daiki.

“I’m not moving until you come out from the closet,” replied Takaki.

From inside the closet, Daiki could see that Takaki finally stood up, making him felt relief at last. Well, only for a moment. Instead of actually went away, Takaki grabbed the closet’s knob. Crap! Daiki tried his best to hold the knob before the older guy managed to open it. But then again, no matter how much he tried to hold it, Takaki definitely stronger or at least faster.

Daiki almost fell forward when Takaki managed to open the door. He looked up, with eyes intensely piercing at Takaki. Being as stubborn as he was, Daiki crawled aside, trying to somehow runaway from Takaki.

“You’re not going anywhere, Dai-chan,” Takaki bended down and grabbed Daiki’s leg.

“Let me go!”

“No!” refused Takaki as he pulled Daiki’s leg, causing the younger boy to be dragged to where he was standing.

Takaki wrapped his free hand on Daiki’s waist and started to lift up his small figure. It wasn't easy of course for Takaki to do so. Despite the fact that Takaki was taller, their weights weren’t that much different. Daiki squirmed about, trying to free himself from Takaki.

“I said let me go!!”

“I said no!” with all his will power, Takaki carried wriggled Daiki to his bed.

He bumped Daiki against the bed harshly with his back against the mattress. Before Daiki managed to do anything, Takaki crawled to Daiki, with both hands pinning the younger boy’s hands against the bed. He just stared at him, while Daiki pierced his eyes at Takaki fiercely as he tried to squirm about, wanted to free himself.

“Let me go! Arggghh!! Just let me go!”

“We need to talk, Dai-chan. You’re not helpi….”

“Let me go!”

“No. Let me explai….”

“I said let me go!!”

“GOD DAMN IT! SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO ME!” shouted Takaki at the end.

Daiki went silent. He wriggled, but less actively as before. His eyes were still set Takaki who was on top of him, but not with anger. There was fear in his eyes. Daiki finally understood what Ryutaro meant by stay away from angry Takaki. He would look much scarier than when Yabu got angry, Ryutaro told him.

“You are a pain in the ass right now and I still want to kiss you. So where did I do wrong?!” asked Takaki, with much better tone than when he shouted at Daiki.

“Don’t play around with what I feel, Takaki. It’s not funny. It’s freaking not funny,”

“I’m not playing around, and you haven’t answered my question. Where did I do wrong?! I kissed you that night because I just couldn’t help it! And the second time I kissed you was because I was sure that I like you! So where did I do wrong?!” asked Takaki again, with a higher and angrier pitch.

Daiki stopped moving. He was trembling, both shocked and scared. Noticing Daiki’s reaction, Takaki let go of the younger boy’s hands. He didn’t really move from where he was and his hands were now on each side of Daiki’s head. “What did I do, Dai-chan? Where is it that I did it wrongly?”

Seconds later, tears fell from the corner of Daiki’s eyes. It was frustration, his frustration over the whole misunderstanding situation. He didn’t understand what he was so mad about. Was it just because he was mad that Takaki found out that he liked him? Was he ashamed for liking Takaki?!

“Dai-chan….” said Takaki, feeling guilty.

“I don’t.. know.. I don’t know w-where you did it w-rong..” sobbed Daiki.

Daiki pulled out his hands, over to Takaki’s head. He wrapped his hands on Takaki’s head and pulled the taller guy down, pressing their body together. He placed their head next to each other as he continued crying. “I don’t understand myself, Takaki.. I don’t understand myself..” he repeated the same words over and over again.

Takaki didn’t say anything. He shifted his body to lie beside Daiki and let the youngest BEST member hugged him tight. They just stayed there, with Daiki crying (still for unknown reason), and Takaki hugging him back.
