Chapter 1: My Hectic Family

“Ryu-kun!!!” screamed Daiki as he pulled Ryutaro’s blanket off the young boy’s body.

Ryutaro just curled on his bed in annoyance. He trailed his hand around the bed, trying to find the blanket to pull it up again. On the other hand, Daiki threw the blanket to the floor and started to pull Ryutaro’s leg. Surprised by what Daiki just did, Ryutaro sat up as Daiki dragged him to the edge of his bed.

“Huaaa!!! Okay okay okay!! I’m awake! I’m awake! Mom! Stop pulling me! No!! Don’t tickle me there!!” screamed Ryutaro with fingers buried to the mattress when Daiki started to tickle his feet.

“Good! Now get ready for school!” said Daiki, finally letting go of Ryutaro’s leg.

The only son of the family growled as he made his way to the bathroom, getting ready. Ryutaro stared at his own reflection on the bathroom’s mirror. I knew it. I’m indeed that good looking, he grinned and took the toothbrush from the edge of the sink and started brushing his teeth.

“TAKAKI YUYAAAA!!! Wake up now or I won’t allow you to touch me for a month!!” Ryutaro could hear clearly from inside the bathroom his so-called-mom screamed, trying to wake up his so-called-dad.

He just sighed and kept on brushing his teeth. When he was little, as an orphan, having a normal little family was what he had always dream on. He was so happy when he was adopted by two nice young men, namely Takaki Yuya and Arioka Daiki. Finally, he thought, he could have the family he had been dreaming of.

Or so he thought. When he was on the 4th grade of primary school and had his first crush on a girl, he realized that something was wrong with his family. He had someone that he called “papa”, and another person he called “mama”. But it never occurred to him that there wasn’t any girl in his family to begin with. From that moment, although it was quite early for a young boy to know this term, Ryutaro learned the word gay.

“Geez! What the hell is wrong with him? I just want to have five more minutes! Dai-chan will turn into an old aunty you can find in the market with the yapping he always do every morning,” complained Takaki as he opened the bathroom’s door.

“He won’t be screaming like that if you just straight away wake up, you know,” replied Ryutaro after he rinsed his mouth.

“Whatever, Ryutaro. It’s not like you straight away wake up every morning,” complained Takaki again as he grabbed his toothbrush.

“Oh come on, Dad. Admit it. The most he will do to me if I don’t wake up right away is grounding me, or cutting down my TV time. At least I don’t have to mourn over myself for not able to touch my partner for a week or a month,” Ryutaro just coldly reply as he walked out the bathroom.

“Hey!! Not fair!!” groaned Takaki with mouth full of foams.

The corner of Ryutaro’s lip just went upward a little as he felt satisfied winning the small little fight with his dad. That morning was just like any other morning Ryutaro had. Daiki would wake up early, cleaning the house, preparing for breakfast, and screaming around to wake Ryutaro and Takaki up.

Ryutaro started to change into his school uniform. It had been eight years since he lived with his parents. Not really a typical family he had expected, but well at least the three of them living in that apartment was lively enough. Everyday was a hectic day for him, especially considering how young his parents were. His dad was just 28, while his mom was only 27. His parents were at the age where they supposed to have fun with their colleagues and started to reach a better career level.

Once he finished changing, he walked out and quickly made his way to the dining room. Daiki was busy putting around the plate and meals. He looked like in such a rush that a hair clip was literally still on his one side of his head, pinning his bangs. Although Daiki was a pro hair dresser, it was still weird for Ryutaro to actually see him with a hair clip.

“Mom, I know you are gay, but that hair clip makes you look like a girl,” commented Ryutaro as he sat on one of the chair.

“Eh? I still have a hair clip on my hair?? Oh goodness gracious!” Daiki quickly trailed his hand on his head, trying to find the hair clip.

“Why are you listening to him, Dai-chan? You look cute with a hair clip on,” said Takaki when he finally showed up. Takaki put a finger on Daiki’s chin and pushed it upwards, causing the younger man to look up to him. The taller boy just smirked as he pressed their noses against each other, teasing him.

As a normal office worker, Takaki was wearing a black suit and a white shirt inside. On the other hand, Daiki, still with a hair clip on his hair, was wearing a casual t-shirt with a cardigan on top of it. However, the white apron Daiki was wearing; and feminine cute face that Daiki had surely made the two of them looked like a normal husband and wife.

“Oh come on! Too much gayness on Monday morning,” complained Ryutaro as he twitched his upper lip.

“Yeah, Yuya. Too much gayness. Now pull your head away and start eating your breakfast,” agreed Daiki.

“Geez! Like mother like son. All I was trying to say is that Dai-chan looks cute when he wears hair clip,” Takaki pulled away and sat on his chair, pouting.

“But it made him looks like a girl,” added Ryutaro.

“I don’t like it when I look like a girl, and you know that Yuya,” agreed Daiki again.

“You are gay! What difference will it make?!” pouted Takaki even more.

“Sexual preference has nothing to do with gender identity,” said Ryutaro calmly.

“That’s my boy,” grinned Daiki.

Takaki just pouted. Having a childish dad like Takaki was so much fun sometimes. Ryutaro found it amusing to tease his dad at any chance he had. He was in denial, of course, when he found out that he had gay parents instead of a normal family. For once he finally realized why his parents never changed his surname. But then, he managed somehow.

While the three of them were having their breakfast, the door bell rang. They exchanged looked in wonder. Takaki pierced his eyes at Ryutaro, trying to make his son to open the door. Ryutaro just glared back at his dad, refusing to do as he was told. Daiki on the other hand could only sigh.

“Grow up, Yuya. It’s pathetic to see you having all this silly little fight with a 13 years old boy,” said Daiki as he stood up and made his way to the door.

“Arioka-kuuuuunnnnnn!!! Ohayooo!!!” greeted a boy when Daiki opened the door.

A boy with a goofy smile was standing right in front of the door. Daiki couldn’t help it but giggled at him. The boy was their neighbour, and Ryutaro’s senpai at school. These two boys always went to school together.

“Ryu-kun! Faster finish your breakfast! Yaotome-kun is here already,” shouted Daiki as he let the boy to come inside.

“No no no no no no, Arioka-kun. I keep telling you to call me Hikaru. Don’t be so formal to me. We’ve been neighbour since I even can’t remember when,” grinned Hikaru.

“Hahaha.. Okay then, Hikaru-kun,” giggled Daiki again.

Not long after, Ryutaro was ready with his breakfast and quickly grabbed his school bag. He gave Daiki a quick peck on the cheek and just a wave to Takaki. “Bye Mom! Bye Dad!” he said as Hikaru and he ran off to school. Daiki just smiled and waved at his son. Takaki on the other hand only pouted.

“Why did he only kiss your cheek? I want some too!” complained Takaki.

“I’m not a girl, but I’m his mom. So I deserve it,” laughed Daiki.

“Geez! Not fair! And what happened to mama and papa? He used to call us with that!” complained Takaki again.

“He’s thirteen. Thir-teen. A teenager to be exact. Just give him a break already, Yuya. He’s growing up, unlike you,” said Daiki.

“But you still love me,” teased Takaki.

“Oh, shut up.”
